A factory’s success is shaped by the decisions made during the project stage.
I managed the planning and implementation of the digital infrastructure for a manufacturing facility of approximately 120,000 m².
While construction was still underway, many critical decisions had to be planned at the same time: from the location of the data center and server room to network architecture; from server and storage infrastructure to backup and Disaster Recovery scenarios; from information security layers and power continuity to fiber connectivity and cabling routes.
The common objective behind these decisions was to ensure uninterrupted operations from the first day of production and to build a sustainable technology infrastructure capable of supporting the facility as it grew over the years.
Technology planning in manufacturing facilities requires the operating model, environmental conditions, hygiene standards and maintenance processes to be evaluated together.
For this reason, planning extended beyond current requirements. New production lines, future capacity increases and evolving operational needs were treated as integral parts of the design.
Every technical decision throughout the project was evaluated according to its contribution to operational continuity, information security, maintainability and long-term efficiency.
Years have passed.
Seeing that the decisions and investments made at that time continue to support production today clearly demonstrates the value of long-term planning.
This approach applies to every organization where operations are managed through technology, regardless of industry.
